EMPLOYMENT & WORK-STUDY OPPORTUNITIES

TEACHING
Swan River is extraordinarily proud of our teaching and support staff, many of whom shoulder multiple responsibilities to safeguard our yoga sanctuary.

If you are interested in becoming a teacher, please apply to our Swan River Yoga Teacher Training Program, or our Advanced Teacher Training program. Although we currently have a full teaching staff, those interested in teaching at Swan River can also email Michele to share their interest and experience.

WORK-STUDY: Cleaning, Front Desk Check-ins, and Flyer Distribution
If you are interested in our work-study program, please read on!

Work-study allows you to work in exchange for free attendance in a yoga class. The system works as follows: one hour of work = one free class. If you are interested in taking on a work-study responsibility, please know that you must accord your shift the same importance as you would a regular "job". We need to know we can count on you so we can continue to deliver top-notch teaching in a clean, peaceful space. Taking on the dedicated responsibility of a work-study position is an excellent way to further your practice.

* Workstudy hours earned at The Shala and Downtown may be used at either of these 2 locations. Workstudy hours earned in the Mid-City Center may be used there. To apply to work at Mid-City, please contact Libby.

There are three avenues for work-study: Cleaning, Front Desk Check-in, and Flyer Distribution. If you feel you have a skill you could share with Swan River in exchange for classes which is not included above, please contact Keith.

Cleaning: With three locations and hundreds of bodies coming in and out the doors every week, we need excellent, reliable work-studies to clean our studios. Think of how great it feels to walk into a clean and calm space. Those who feel called to clean the studio offer a gift to all the students and many who clean say their shift becomes a part of their actual yoga practice, ie cleaning becomes an offering of thanksgiving for the teachings. If this sounds like you, please let us know!

All shifts are currently filled. Please contact Aaron for more information.

Front Desk Check-in: Those who work at the Front Desk must learn the basics of MindBody Software, understand our different class packages, their prices and expirations, which can be shared and which can not, and have some degree of familiarity with boutique items and upcoming events. (Please click the link at the top of the page, "Current Staff: Frequently Asked Questions" for more info.)

Before class: Front Desk people should arrive 20 minutes before class and begin to survey the space. They should print out any needed matierals such as release forms, sign-in sheets, and schedules. Release forms and sign-in sheets should be ready before the first student walks in the door. The sign-in sheet must be filled out ahead of time. Also, a quick check to make sure there is enough toilet paper in the bathroom would be much appreciated by all.

If a sub is teaching, please make sure that MindBody has been updated.

Please always remind our students how many classes they have left on their packages, and for anyone who comes up as "unpaid" please try to resolve the situation politely before class begins.

When class is beginning: Log OUT of the software (otherwise it will time out) Please leave the desk, come and join the class for OM and the teacher's dharma talk. When the physical portion of class begins, please get up and do a head count, double checking that the bodies in the room match the lists on both the sign-in sheet andin MindBody. After these lists are in perfect agreement, take your place on the mat and enjoy class.

For your attendance: Front Desk Work-studies can "buy" themselves one class called a "Work-Study 1 class" in the system in exchange for managing the desk before AND after class (as long as all the duties described here are taken care of. If you come 5 minutes before class, please do not buy yourself a class as you have not completed your job.)

YOU MUST STAY THROUGH THE CLASS YOU CHECK-IN. If you are not feeling well and do not want to do asana, contact Keith (if you are working at the Shala or Downtown) or Libby (if you are working in Mid-City) and some extra work can be arranged for you. The teacher needs your support after class for anyone who was not able to check-in before class, or for anyone who wants to sign-up for a workshop or buy a boutique item.

AFTER CLASS: Please announce that anyone who has not signed in is welcome to come to the desk and sign-in. If the late-comers still do not come back to the desk, please politely approach them and ask them to sign in.

LAST STEP: File the sign in sheet in the appropriate day's folder in the filing cabinet. Pull out a fresh sign-in sheet and fill it out for the next class. Make sure the desk is neat. Congratulations and thanks for your help! Click the link at the top of the page, "Current Staff: Frequently Asked Questions" for more info.

Please contact Aaron if you are interested. Here are our available shifts:

All our shifts are currently filled. Please contact keith@swanriveryoga.com to be put on the waiting list. Thanks for offering to help!

Flyer Distribution: We need someone to pass out flyers uptown, downtown and mid-city twice a month. Each shift should take a few hours and earn you several credits for classes. A keen flyer distributo could earn enough classes to have a solid yoga practice simply working two days a month for several hours each time. Our flyer distributor will work with
